Etienne KIMESSOUKIÉ OMOLOMO

Etienne KIMESSOUKIÉ OMOLOMO est infirmier, titulaire d’un Master en Sciences Infirmières et d’un doctorat PhD en Psychologie (profil recherche) de l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (Canada). Il est Maître de conférences, Représentant de l’Unité de recherche en Sciences infirmières et Directeur adjoint en charge des affaires académiques à l’École des Sciences de la Santé de l’Université Catholique d’Afrique Centrale. Il est par ailleurs Président de l’Association des Infirmiers et Infirmières du Cameroun, et membre du Conseil national de l’Ordre des Professions Médico-sanitaires du Cameroun. Il est auteur de plusieurs articles et livres.

Michael Cantinotti

Michael Cantinotti is Full Professor (Research Methods) at the Department of Psychology, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR). After completing a general licentiate degree (M.Sc.) in Psychology at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), a Ph.D. in Psychology at Laval University (Quebec City) and postdoctoral degree in public health at McGill University (Montreal), he worked as a government researcher (at the regional Public Health Branch, then at the provincial Institute national de santé publique du Québec) before becoming a university professor. In 2013 he founded and then headed for several years the Service of Support and Mutual Assistance in Applied Methodology at his university (www.uqtr.ca/sesame). He is also particularly interested in the role of emotional experience and moral reasoning in situations of dilemmas related to clinical practice. He directs the Research Laboratory: Adaptation, Wellbeing and Psychological Resilience.

Réal Labelle

Réal Labelle, PhD, is a full professor of clinical psychology at the University of Quebec at Montreal. He is a researcher at the Centre for Research and Intervention on Suicide, Ethical issues and End-of-Life Practices, and at the Research Centre at the Montreal Mental Health University Institute. He has been a member of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec since 1989. He specializes in the study, assessment and psychological treatment of mood disorders with or without suicidal behaviors. In the past years, he has been regularly invited to Europe, the Middle East and Africa to teach behavioral and cognitive therapy.

Leon MUTESA

Prof. Mutesa, is an MD, PhD and full professor of human genetics, currently working as Director of Center for Human Genetics that he created in 2006 at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences-University of Rwanda. He obtained his MD from the university of Rwanda in 2003 and his PhD in 2009 from the university of Liege-Belgium where he also completed his post-doc in 2011. Throughout his career he has been immensely involved in clinical services, academics, research, capacity building, and management in the health sector. He served as the Director of Department of Clinical Laboratory Dept. at the Kigali University Teaching hospital, which is the largest referral hospital. He has been Director General of Medical Research Center in Rwanda Biomedical Centre under Ministry of Health, where he coordinated health related research activities in all national medical institutions. He developed several research policies within the health sector and founded the Rwanda health research commission which reviews research grants and studies before approval by Rwanda National Ethics Committee.

Since starting his genetic career, Prof. Mutesa has pioneered new developments and implementation of a reference centre for medical genetics in Rwanda, which is the only one in the East African Region. He has advocated for health insurance coverage for genetic examination for patients in Rwanda and currently, most health insurances cover the karyotype exam, a test to see whether the number of someone’s chromosome number is normal and other cytogenetic and molecular tests. He has supervised/mentored over 90 MSc, MMed, PhD, and Post-Doc fellows from Rwanda and from overseas universities. He has published over 170 peer-reviewed papers. Prof. Mutesa is a member of various expert committees and has led various regional and international research consortia and fora. Over the past 15 years he has participated in several international research and training collaborations. Currently, he is dual-PI/PD of a NIH grant- National Cancer Institute (NCI)- U54-HIV/HPV Cancer Prevention, Treatment and Pathogenesis: Rwanda/Einstein (1U54CA190163), the goal of this project is to screen for HPV in a large cohort of HIV+ women and MSM population.

He also serves as PI of NIH/H3Africa grant – National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-Transgenerational Epigenomics of Trauma and PTSD in Rwanda (U01MH115485) with aim to characterize the transgenerational transmission of epigenomic impact of genocide exposure and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in women survivors of the Rwandan genocide and their offspring (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41588-022-01028-9 ). Since the COVID-19 outbreak in Rwanda, Dr Mutesa and his research group have implemented various research projects aiming at building human capacity for SARS-CoV-2 laboratory diagnostic and management. Together with his group they have published a Nature’s paper on their discovery pooling testing strategy (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2885-5 ) which shows a cost-saving approach for better use of SARS-CoV-2 limited testing resources. He is principal investigator of a national prospective cohort study aiming at assessing COVID-19 vaccines immune response in Rwandan population.

He is currently leading 2 major clinical trials one on malaria (multi-centre Phase III randomised controlled non-inferiority clinical trial to compare the efficacy, safety and tolerability of Triple Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies versus first-line ACTs + placebo for the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Africa; a study by the Development of Triple Artemisinin Combination Therapies (DeTACT));and another one on COVID-19 mRNA vaccine candidate (A Phase I/IIa (Multicenter, Open Label, Dose Escalation, Phase I/Multicenter, Observer -Blinded, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Phase IIa) Trial to Evaluate the Safety, Tolerability and Immunogenicity of the STP2250 mRNA-Based COVID-19 Vaccine Administered as a Booster to Healthy Adults Aged 19-55 Years Old), both funded by Oxford and International Vaccine Institute, respectively.

In overall, Prof Mutesa is leading various research groups working on different research programmes including infectious diseases (HIV, Malaria, NTDs), genomics and genetics, as well as epigenetics.

Nadia Monacelli

Nadia Monacelli is graduated from Geneva University in Psychology and teaching at Parma university in the department of social psychology. She is also the president of the International post-graduate course related to Mental Health and Psychosocial support in Humanitarian context.

She is occupying several positions: Expert Advisor to the project SF Eur (suicides forces); Expert Advisor to the MOOC Entreprise Project focus on rights, Equality and Citizenship.

Alessandra Talamo

Alessandra Talamo PhD is Full Professor in Social Psychology and Psychoterapist at the Dept. of Social and Developmental Psychology of Sapienza University of Rome. Former Head of Department. Alessandra leads the HOPE service (Humanitarian Operators Psychological E-services) devoted to psychological support, in presence and at a distance, of professionals working in conflict zones and humanitarian emergencies. Alessandra is coordinating a project in the field of professional training and capacity building devoted to prospective psychologists in Central African Republic, in partnership with University of Rwanda. Scientific coordinator of the IDEaCT Social Lab (Interaction DEsign and Communication Technologies), her research also includes the human-centered design of digital services in several fields. Involved in several international projects over time, she authored more than 100 publications both at national and international layer. Member of the UNESCO chair on Child Maltreatment, contributing both in the field of creating human-centered psychosocial services through design-thinking techniques, and in supporting professionals involved in the perspective of ”helping the helpers”.

Jean-Luc BRACKELAIRE

Jean-Luc BRACKELAIRE est docteur en psychologie, professeur aux Universités de Louvain (UCLouvain) et de Namur (UNamur) et psychologue clinicien au Centre de Guidance de Louvain-la-Neuve. Ses recherches se réalisent dans le domaine de la psychologie clinique interculturelle, de l’anthropologie et de la psychanalyse, dans les champs de la santé mentale communautaire, de la migration et de l’exil, et des traumatismes psychosociaux, en collaboration proche avec des équipes et des réseaux universitaires et cliniques en Belgique, en France, au Rwanda, au Chili, au Brésil et en Equateur.

Benjamin Alexandre Nkoum

Benjamin Alexandre NKOUM, PhD en sciences de l’éducation de l’Université de Provence Aix-Marseille I. Professeur titulaire des universités, Enseignant-chercheur à l’UCAC. Il est Cadre Supérieur de Santé et ancien Directeur de l’École des Sciences de la Santé (ESS) de l’Université Catholique d’Afrique Centrale (UCAC), Directeur de l’Unité de Formation Doctorale (UFD) en sciences de la santé de l’UCAC à Yaoundé au Cameroun. Il enseigne dans des Universités en Europe, en Afrique et au Cameroun. Il est auteur de plus d’une vingtaine d’ouvrages et de nombreux articles scientifiques et par ailleurs, Directeur de la Revue Scientifique « Tropiques Santé », Coordinateur des laboratoires de recherche ACSSA et URSI, membre du Conseil Scientifique de l’UCAC et de l’Université Adventiste Cosendai, membre de plusieurs Comités Scientifiques de Revues, et par ailleurs ancien membre du Comité National d’Éthique de la Recherche en Santé Humaine (CNERSH) au Cameroun.

Dieudonne Kayiranga

Doctoral student in Nursing at the University of Rwanda and visiting scholar at Duke University (USA) and Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (CANADA). His area of research includes Resilience, Maternal Child Health, HIV, Sexual and reproductive health, Interprofessional collaboration and Education. He participates in the organization of international conferences and authors numerous publications. He is a member of the International Association for the Promotion and Dissemination of Research on Resilience, BoD member of Rwanda National Council of Nurses and Midwives (NCNM), member of Association of Nurses in AIDS Care ANAC), and member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI).
